Alzheimer’s Doubles

On May 1, 2023, the Orange County Register reported that Alzheimer’s had doubled in the last decade and that about 5% of residents in OC live with Alzheimer’s or a related dementia. Statistics from the Alzheimer’s Association report that the number of people living with Alzheimer’s will double in the next 20 years. 1 out of 9 people over 65 live with Dementia or Alzheimer’s

This is scary stuff. No one wants to live with Alzheimer’s or another Dementia. There are no treatments and no cures. The current medications only slow the disease, and only do so for less than a year if given early in the disease. Grim news.

As a person who has had two loved ones (my husband and mother-in-love) who died of Alzheimer’s, I have seen first-hand the devastation of this disease. My mother-in-love and father-in-love were not prepared for Alzheimer’s; their Living Trust failed them. I had to take my mother-in-love to court and have the court declare her incompetent so that my husband and his brother could be the Trustees of their Living Trust.

I don’t want this to happen to you. Sadly, most living Trusts only prepare for death and have no plan for “what if I forget to die and live with Alzheimer’s?”

If you are worried that you or your loved one could be one of the people who live with or will live with Dementia or Alzheimer’s, give me a call to see if your living trust is a life plan or a death plan.
