Is this the train track your life is running on?
Dementia is a challenging trip. You might also hear it called “major neurocognitive disorder”. Dementia isn’t a disease. Instead, it’s a group of symptoms caused by other conditions.
About 5% – 8% of adults over the age of 65 have some form of dementia. This percentage doubles every 5 years after 65. As many as half of people in their 80s have some dementia.
Alzheimer’s disease is the most common cause of dementia. Between 60% – 80% of people with dementia have Alzheimer’s. But there are as many as 50 other causes of dementia.
Things seem smooth for a few minutes or a few hours or a few days, and then you hit “trackulence”. That is where the train is having trouble staying on the tracks. Full speed ahead and you don’t know what is around the corner.
You are not alone, friends. I see you! I feel your pain! You fear the next turn (that you assume will bring additional pain and stress, and it will). I am here to be your trusted guide.
