It has been over a year since my husband died from Alzheimer’s, and I remain active in the caregiver groups to encourage those who are still caring for a loved one with dementia or Alzheimer’s. The disease is brutal, sad and lonely.

Do you often feel that your life will always be in the middle of the storm? If so, try to be more optimistic. Everyone needs to have hope… and some of you may have to work harder to develop hope muscles.
Hope is not based on the conditions and environment in which you find yourself; rather it’s a developed attitude. It starts with being grateful and requires a bit of dreaming about your future after caregiving. A lack of hope makes life a depressing existence where you slog through each day like a zombie. The good news is that lack of hope is reversible!
BUT IT REQUIRES EFFORT AND A DESIRE TO CHANGE.
