I just read the sad news that Bruce Willis has been diagnosed with Frontal Temporal Dementia. I am not surprised as Aphasia (difficulty processing language) is a sign of possible dementia, especially in an adult. The article I read stated the startling truth that there is no treatment or cure for dementia (the current drugs merely slow the progress for a short time). I actively support the Alzheimer’s Association and Alzheimer’s OC. I am hoping for a cure.
As we wait for a cure, I want to remind each of you that no one is immune. As we age, our chances of being diagnosed with some form of dementia increase to about 50%. Bruce Willis is only 67.
I am on a mission to make sure that when you set up your Living Trusts, and Powers of Attorney, you think about what if I don’t die but live with dementia? Who will decide what happens to me? Who will decide if I need to move to a care home? How will we pay for my care?
80% of Trusts Fail! The 2 main reasons: 1. Your Assets did not get retitled into your Trust so just like toys that aren’t in your wagon, don’t go with the wagon those assets end up in Probate. 2. You have dementia and don’t know it, and to remove you as the Trustee, two doctors’ notes are needed and you won’t go, or the doctors won’t make the diagnosis forcing your family to go to court to remove you.
If you are worried about dementia and want to plan for what if I don’t die but get sick or worse, I’m diagnosed with dementia, give me a call and get started.
