A dear friend (she babysat me, and I babysat her kids) recently turned 80, and we celebrated. She has been on oxygen for a while now, but her ever-present smile was still there, even though she was tired. 80 years are a gift, to her and to those who love her. I hope we have more years with her.
I watched as her children cared for her daughter with special needs and reflected on how, when she and her husband pass, their daughter will be cared for financially through the planning I did for my friend. More importantly, I saw the true value of family.
This family is like a second family to me. They were there for me when my dad and brother passed away, and I have been there for them as my friend’s sister and parents passed, too. When the time comes for my friend to pass (as it does for all of us), her family will be there for one another.
Celebrate your family, whether they are related by blood or by love. It will be those you care for now who will be there for your loved ones when you pass. If you are fortunate enough to have a child with special needs, give me a call so that we can make sure there is a plan to take care of them.
