The Secret Ingredient for Your Legal Documents

My husband loved to cook. He remembered a favorite dish his grandmother used to make and tried for several years to recreate the recipe. One year, he wanted to include it in our Friendsgiving. He and his brother compared notes, and he tried several variations, but something was always missing—the dish just wasn’t what he remembered; it was bland. Then, while going through the Betty Crocker Cookbook, he found the recipe, and handwritten on it was a note: “Add a teaspoon of sugar.” He added it, and the dish was perfect.

Legal documents can be like that dish—seemingly similar on the surface, but sometimes missing a crucial element. Most people assume that all Living Trusts, Wills, and Powers of Attorney are the same, but some miss important provisions. Just like the teaspoon of sugar, having the right extra provisions can make everything much smoother when it’s time to use these documents. If you want to make sure your Living Trust includes those extra provisions that will make a difference when you pass away or if you face dementia or disability, give me a call.
