I hope everyone gets to enjoy some flowers and candy today. I’ll be “borrowing” a few roses from a friend’s garden, indulging in chocolate-covered strawberries, and reflecting on the love I shared with my late husband, who passed from young-onset Alzheimer’s. I’m also celebrating “Galentine’s” with some wonderful single friends. With Valentine’s Day falling on a Friday, it’s easy for those without partners to feel a little down, so consider this a little extra love sent your way.
Since I’m an attorney, my idea of a meaningful Valentine’s gift may not be as fun as flowers or candy—but an Estate Plan that ensures your loved one is protected when you’re gone is one of the most loving gifts you can give. Having been part of the “widows club” for a while now, I’ve met those whose spouses thoughtfully planned ahead and those who didn’t. The difference is striking. Some widows struggle just to pay their bills, find affordable housing, or access bank accounts—sometimes even requiring a court battle. It can be heartbreaking.
If you want to make sure your spouse is taken care of when you’re gone, let’s talk. And as a Valentine’s special, if you mention this email, I’ll take $500 off your new or updated Estate Plan.
