I read a lot of articles about senior care. The Washington Post on May 16 published an article about the online service “A Place for Mom” staying mum on neglect. The article goes on to say that not only were they mum about the neglect, but they also list facilities as “Best” that have known issues: citations for neglect, and that many of the reviews are fake.
One of the services I offer is “Care Navigation.” I have NEVER recommended “A Place for Mom” mainly because they consistently only offer the most expensive options, as they are paid one month’s rent for every new resident they refer. I do refer to placement services that do receive a commission, but my clients know how they are being paid. The referral services I use check for citations and have visited every location before recommending it. I also check for citations and give advice on what to look for when touring.
The depth of the bad practices of “A Place for Mom” shocked me and made me even more passionate about helping my clients find the best care for their loved ones.
