Don’t Let a Fall Compromise Your Parent’s Independence

The ladies in my neighborhood get together once a month for lunch. One of my neighbors is now using a walker. She has fallen several times and has been injured. Fortunately, she has recovered and is still able to get out. Her daughter is making her stay with them. I love my daughter, but I mentioned that when the grandkids and all their friends are over watching TV, I feel out of place.

I would love to be back at home. I know the danger of falling when you are alone. We all know about the neighbor who was on the floor for 12 hours, unable to call for help. I am lucky to have a caring daughter. Hopefully, I won’t have a fall that fractures a hip or knee because some never recover from those injuries, living the rest of their days in a care facility.

As we age, we need to do everything possible to prevent falls. Unfortunately, they are not always preventable. I have something medical causing my falls, but I don’t know what it is. Until I do, I will be staying with my daughter.

If your parent is starting to fall, it is time to give me a call. It’s time to update your legal documents and probably time to add your child alongside you as your co-trustee and power of attorney. Stay safe and give me a call.
