Conservatorship Concerns? Learn the Right Approach

I was talking to someone frustrated because their mother was now in court with her sister trying to get Conservatorship, claiming the person was stealing money. Sadly, I get at least one call like this a week. Conservatorships are expensive, messy, and can be corrupt. I do represent families who must file for Conservatorship because a loved one is no longer able to manage their affairs and either has no documents or the documents they have fail when needed.

The person was frustrated because the court had ordered her mom’s house sold to pay for care and all the legal fees. They asked, “Can I avoid this by just giving my kids everything now?” I told them NO. If you GIVE your assets to your kids, everything belongs to them. They can sell your house, kick you out, and rent it. They can spend all your money on trips and fancy cars, and there is nothing you can do. YOU GAVE IT TO THEM.

I know I have written about this before, but I get asked this question A LOT. I really don’t want you to make this mistake.
