One of the services I offer is house calls—and I genuinely enjoy them. It’s a chance to meet clients in their homes, connect with their families, and often, get to know their beloved pets.
My most recent visit was especially memorable. My client had just been discharged from the hospital after breaking her hip. Her Living Trust hadn’t been updated since her husband passed, and she wanted to ensure her daughter could help manage bills and that her grandchildren would receive part of her estate. Leaving the house was a challenge, so she asked if I’d come to her. She also asked, “Do you mind dogs?” I said no—definitely not.
When I arrived, I heard a big dog bark behind the door. I called out, “Hi, puppy!” Her daughter opened the door, and there was Moose—a giant Great Dane–Saint Bernard mix. Moose was clearly eager to make a new friend and not at all interested in moving aside. As I stepped in, he greeted me with a full-on dog hug. Fortunately, I’ve had a friend with a Saint Bernard, so I knew to brace myself by stepping toward the wall. Moose and I hit it off right away.
With the updates complete, my client now has peace of mind. Her affairs are in order, her daughter is legally able to help, and her grandchildren are included in the plan. She doesn’t have to worry about what would happen if her next fall is more serious.
It’s a joy to do this work—and to make a few new furry friends along the way.
