A Better Way to Plan for Long-Term Care

A fellow attorney recently called me about her parents. Her mom has mild cognitive impairment, her dad had a mild stroke and now needs a walker—and they can no longer care for themselves at home.

She hoped Medi-Cal could cover their costs since they only have modest Social Security income and a home. While qualifying for Medi-Cal would be straightforward next year when the asset test returns, Medi-Cal only pays for Skilled Nursing Homes—not Board and Care or Assisted Living—and finding caregivers through In-Home Supportive Services is becoming harder due to low wages.

The solution? With my care navigator, we built a plan. Her parents will move into an affordable private care facility, funded by renting or selling their home. My care navigator will handle the logistics, and I’ll ensure they’re “pre-qualified” for Medi-Cal so when their health declines, we can immediately get Skilled Nursing coverage.

They’ll receive the care they need without draining their savings. If you want a plan that protects your health, home, and financial future, give me a call.
