My new client had made a simple mistake; it cost them over $17,000. Unfortunately, there was no mercy for their mistake. We tried every avenue. As I helped them, I noticed that they really weren’t able to understand the mistake. It had cost them so much because they kept making it (which is why it was so hard to get them any mercy). On the surface, the mistake seemed simple, but the reality was that this “simple” mistake was really a symptom of early dementia or mild cognitive impairment.
The early signs of dementia can be simple mistakes in bookkeeping—paying bills twice, forgetting bills, etc. When your loved one makes this kind of mistake, it is hard to see it as a sign that they are on the road to a dementia diagnosis. However, this is the time to start planning for your future and planning for the worst—a dementia diagnosis—while hoping for the best. It is always good to be prepared.
I have a dementia focus in my practice. I am committed to helping you plan for the worst so that you have as many options as possible available.
