She wanted to make sure her child did not get a dime. Her child had taken advantage of her. They had used her credit cards, running up over $50,000 in debt. They had made her sign a new will, trust, and power of attorney giving them power over all her money and giving them everything. They used the power to transfer money from her investment accounts to themselves. She had attended an event at the Senior Center, and afterwards stayed and spoke to the speaker. The speaker works with a non-profit, so was not able to help her. The speaker connected her with me.
She and I have worked hard to make sure that her wishes are honored when she dies. We had to undo her other documents, revoking them and finding where the child had moved her money. We also worked with her other child to set up accountability. Her daughter is providing monthly accounting to the volunteer accountant at the non-profit. The accountant and non-profit are trying to see if they will be able to pursue an elder abuse case.
