How to Protect Your Loved One’s Right to Care

For over 33 years, I’ve helped families facing dementia, disability, and devastating diagnoses plan for the best care possible. I work to ensure they can use every available resource—Medicare, Medi-Cal, health insurance, and private pay—so loved ones receive the support they need.

But care is getting harder to secure. Medicare, once a lifeline for seniors, has become increasingly restrictive. Hospitals often classify patients “under observation” instead of admitting them—avoiding coverage for rehabilitation in skilled nursing facilities. In fact, it took a U.S. Supreme Court case (Jimmo v. Sebelius) to stop hospitals from denying coverage for rehabilitation. Even now, stays beyond 20 days are rare, and many patients are discharged home with minimal nursing support—leaving families to cover private care at $35+ per hour.

With the over-65 population growing by 10,000 people a day, Medicare will only get stricter. That’s why having an advocate to fight for your care—and your rights—is more critical than ever.

If you need help navigating care options and protecting your loved one, give me a call.
