I recently attended a Broadway Series matinee featuring the musical Annie. There’s an important lesson in the story:
When Mr. Warbucks wants to adopt Annie, her greatest wish is to find her parents. To help, he offers a large cash reward for their return. Thousands of people show up, claiming to be her parents—just to get the money.
Lesson: People Will Lie for Money.
Scammers are on the rise, and as we age, we become more vulnerable. One major reason? The risk of dementia increases with age.
The first sign of dementia is often falling for scams. That’s why I encourage my clients over 60 to consider adding a trusted person as a co-trustee—someone who can help oversee their finances and step in if their ability to reason declines.
If you want to protect yourself or a loved one from financial scams, give me a call.
