Need skilled nursing? Here’s how Medi-Cal can help

This past weekend at my in-person workshop, someone asked if I had encountered people who make too much to qualify for Medi-Cal. The answer is yes—there are several programs, such as In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS), the Assisted Living Waiver (ALW), and other community-based services, that have strict income limits.

However, one program is available regardless of income: Long-Term Care Medi-Cal. This program covers care in a Skilled Nursing Facility, including full custodial care, with Medi-Cal footing the bill. The biggest challenge? Getting into a facility. Most facilities prioritize Medicare patients since Medicare covers a maximum of 100 days—often far fewer.

This is why we offer Elder Care Navigation Services to help clients secure the care they need. Navigating Medicare and Medi-Cal for skilled nursing care is complex, but with the right planning, we can protect your assets and ensure you or your loved one receives proper care.

If your loved one needs long-term care and you need guidance, give me a call.
